According to the Gulf News, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, opened on Saturday what’s believed to be the world’s first smart unique police service station in Dubai. Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri – Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Lt-General Dahi Khalfan Tamim – Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security, were present for the launch.

The new station will be open 24 hours, seven days a week and offers 27 critical services such as reporting any crimes and traffic incidents. Also, a further 33 services providing community services ranging from getting a good-conduct certificate to social support for victims of family violence.

Next day on Sunday during a media tour of the new station, visitors were guided by directional floor signs to private cubicles where people can report their concerns remotely to police officers who communicate via a large tv screen one-on-one with the complainant.

Khalid Nasser Al Razouqi, a General Director of Smart Services at Dubai Police, said the new facility is a real step into future police stations in the United Arab Emirates.

“Citizens or tourists can visit anytime and report a crime or benefit from our services. The automated police station is first of many that will be installed all around the city,” Al Razouqi told Gulf News.

Once seated in private cubicles at the police station, visitors can click on an electronic dashboard to communicate online with Dubai Police officers around the clock.

“It is a confidential service point where the citizens can speak freely with police officers through video conference. The smart dashboard can provide many services such as paying traffic tickets by cash or credit cards or sent and receive documents,” Al Razouqi added.

“Police officers also will take the statement’s from visitor’s and return it at the smart station in hard-copy form, and then the visitor will sign it before sending the copy back to the police officer to complete the reporting of a crime or any other documents,” he said.

“All commercial and residential areas in the future will have an automated police station to provide the finest smart automatic police services to facilitate access to police for the public and save their time. While waiting process, customers can play an educational driving game in the station which not only entertains but teaches people about safe driving.” Al Razouqi said.

“Many people don’t like to go to police station maybe, and this station of the future will break the ice as people will use the police service anytime and without the need to go to the regular station. It will cut time and will reduce the traffic number of customers in other locations,” Capt Al Shaibani said.

People who find any lost items in a public area can go to the smart police station and put the found item in a plastic bag and then deposit it in a big locked box inside the cubicle.
